MK weaves the Magic

Mk's Pride the magnificent  son of Willow Magic continues to show that he is a colt of the highest calibre. He came through powerfully to defeat the triple Equus Champion, Gotthegreenlight, in the grade 2 Ilha Bela Hawaii Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday.

Despite his position at the top of the bookmakers boards Mk's Pride seemed to have a tough task on his hands. Even though he has the scalp of champion filly War Of Athena to his credit, many thought his attempt to justify favoritism against proven Grade 1 gladiators, Got The Greenlight and last years winner Cirillo, might find him out, but he took it all in his stride and acquitted himself with aplomb.

Obstacles in the running could not intimidate this grandson of Dubawi as he challenged the leader Got The Green Light at the 200 and drew away to beat this dual champion with much more ease than the margin suggests.

Champion jockey Warren Kennedy was full of praise for the colt intimating they realise that the colt is better when allowed to relax early on in the race so that his devastating turn of foot can be unleashed.

In his words “I had my reservations going against such strong horses.. older horses as well but he pulled it out of the fire today he quickened smartly and he kept giving all the way to the line this horse dug down deep and started to pull away towards the end. A fantastic win, I just don't know where the bottom of this horse is yet. He could be anything!"
